Have you ever been disappointed by social media marketing?
You posted about your event… and got 2 likes. Or, you put out a call for donations and received $10.
What if we told you that there were some tweaks you could make to your posts and see better results? Follow these three tips to get more from your social media strategy.
1. Understand WHO you are talking to on social media.
Our first tip? You have to know who your audience is on social media.
Odds are the sweet older woman who has donated to your EOY campaign each year is not on Instagram or LinkedIn. But she might be on Facebook.
Take a look at the analytics for each of your profiles and see who is making up your audience. This will help you write copy and design graphics that appeal to those audiences — and get you better results.
2. Create content that is engaging — you shouldn’t be posting just to post.
For too many nonprofits, a social media post is made just to make a post. And while informational content about your organization is important, engaging content will go a lot further.
Example: You’re getting ready to share about your annual event and have a graphic ready. So you plan to share that event graphic several times over the next month. Try these engaging ideas instead:
> Tell the story of the event: How did it start and what has the impact been?
> Share photos from past events in a carousel & tag attendees
> Tease the event with theme details and giveaways.
> Share polls and more in Instagram stories.
3. Try out different types of content to engage your audience.
It’s one thing to post a picture or a still graphic, but what if you tried different types of content?
Example: Let’s say you’re looking to meet a fundraising goal. Instead of simply announcing it and asking for donations every week, try these ideas:
> Find a partner or participant to collab with on a testimonial post
> Share a carousel of data that displays the impact of your org
> Update your followers with a goal tracker
> Show off your programming with a Reel
All of these ideas tie back to your fundraiser, but are engaging your audience in new and different ways.
