Wearing all the hats at your nonprofit? We see you.
When you don’t have a dedicated marketing team (or it’s just you, a Google doc, and some coffee), it can be hard to know where to even start.
But you don’t need to do everything. You just need to focus on the right things.
Here are 5 things to prioritize when you’re doing it solo:
1. Start with strategy.
Before you post anything, get clear on your why. Do you want more awareness, donor engagement, or volunteer signups? Set measurable goals. Strategy comes first — always.
2. Pick 1–2 platforms.
You don’t need to be everywhere. Choose the platform where your audience is already active, and focus your energy there.
3. Create evergreen content you can reuse.
Your mission doesn’t change weekly. Write a few strong posts about your impact, your why, and your services — then recycle and repurpose. Work smarter, not harder.
4. Make your website do more work.
Can someone visit your homepage and immediately understand what you do, who you serve, and how to take action? If not, that’s your starting point. Your site should support your outreach — not rely on it.
5. Focus on connection, not perfection.
Skip the over-polished graphics and viral trends. Show up with real stories, clear asks, and consistency. Your audience wants to connect with humans, not a curated brand robot.
