5 ways to achieve consistency in nonprofit marketing

Your nonprofit marketing strategy might be missing consistency — a key component in amplifying your mission in a strategic marketing campaign.

Consistency is a key component in amplifying your mission in a strategic marketing campaign. But with so many responsibilities, marketing often falls behind. Here are five ways you can achieve consistency in your nonprofit marketing plan.

Identify your brand — and stick with it.

Our number one tip for ensuring consistency in a nonprofit marketing strategy? Identify your brand — that means your voice, your look, your tone — and stick with it. Whether you’re sending an email, posting an update on Instagram or pulling together a mailer, your the look, sound and feel of your content should be the same.

Use templates for frequent content.

One way to help build consistency is to develop templates for various types of content. For example, create a template for your ideal newsletter, with placeholders for the various types of content you’d like to share each time you send it out. Or if you’re frequently canceling a program due to weather, consider creating a template you can quickly use each time.

Create a weekly content plan.

Consistency goes beyond the words and graphics you’re using. Research shows that being consistent in when you show up can pay dividends. Create a content plan that helps your team stay up to date on the plans for the week: when the email is going out; when you plan to post on Facebook and when your next mailer is set for pick up.

Keep your team informed and involved.

The last thing you want to do is to have different understandings of the plans. Keeping your team involved in creating content and giving ideas as well as keeping them updated on progress can help drive consistency. In many nonprofits, marketing falls on one person — don’t be afraid to gather opinions and knock heads!

Review your content for minor tweaks.

Consistency shouldn’t lead to staleness, though. Be sure to consistently check your content for tweaks you can make to best serve your audience. We suggest making the small tweaks slowly; don’t make a big jump that will go against the consistency your audience is looking for.
