The sun is stretching out the days. School is out.

The sun is stretching out the days. School is out. Calendars are shifting. And all around us, people are preparing for summer.

But in the background — beneath the vacation plans and backyard get-togethers — I’m hearing a familiar hum: A pressure to keep going, keep producing, keep showing up 100% no matter the season.

Our culture doesn’t just glorify overworking — it makes rest feel like something you have to earn. Like taking time off means falling behind. Like slowing down is a failure.

But here’s what I’m learning, slowly and often the hard way: Rest is not a reward for burning out. It’s a requirement for showing up well.

As a mom, summer brings a different rhythm (whether I plan it that way or not) — more time with my daughter, more flexibility, more mess, more magic. As an entrepreneur, it brings the ever-present tension between building and being. And yet, I’m finding myself leaning into the quiet moments. The afternoons spent playing. The mornings without alarms. The stretch of time that isn’t measured by meetings, but by memories.

This isn’t laziness. It’s living.

And for many of us — especially those of us who are women, caregivers, or people of color — choosing rest isn’t just self-care; it’s a revolutionary act. It’s a refusal to be defined solely by our output. It’s reclaiming our time, our energy, and our joy.

So, this summer, I’m not interested in grinding. Because I want my daughter to see that work can be meaningful and that rest is sacred. I want her to know that her worth is not measured in how busy she is. And I want that for all of us.

Here at Catalyst Collective, we’re still showing up — with purpose, with intention, and with space for stillness. We’re dreaming, planning, creating, but we’re also pausing. We’re spending time with family. We’re nourishing our own wells so we can pour into others from a place of fullness.

Maybe this is your invitation to do the same. To say no when you need to. To take the nap. To spend the day in the sun with your phone on silent. To trust that rest is not just a break in the work — it’s part of the work.

You don’t have to earn your rest. You are already worthy of it.
